DX 959 B

AM/SSB Mobile CB Radio

From Galaxy   " Today, I am happy to announce that our Research & Development Team has come
up with a Deluxe Edition of the DX959 - the DX959B. It is exactly the same
in circuitry, components and operation as the DX959. However, they have
changed the frequency LEDs, channel LEDs, RB LED and RX LED from green to
blue. In addition, they added a "StarLite" faceplate with all lettering
backlit in either blue or red. This does not replace the current DX959. The
old DX959 stays. We now have two versions of the 959."

  • Blue Channel Display
  • RB and RX LED's Blue
  • StarLite Faceplate (Glow-in-the-Dark red and blue lettering)
  • Large, easy-to-read meter with 4 scales:
    1. "S" Meter indicates up to 60 dB over S9
    2. Modulation Percentage Scale for use on AM
    3. Power Scale Calibrated for AM and SSB
    4. SWR Scale
  • Automatic SWR Circuit (no complicated calibration procedure)
  • "Talkback" Circuit with On/Off Switch and Volume Control
  • Variable Power Output Control
  • Roger Beep with On/Off switch and LED Indicator
  • Galaxy Noise Filter for use on weak signals
  • High SWR Alert LED Indicator
  • Two Year Warranty as explained below:
  • Five-digit Frequency Display
  • +/- 1.0 kHz Receive Clarifier
  • Noise Blanker and Automatic Noise Limiter
  • AM, SSB and PA Modes
  • 3-Position Tone Control Switch
  • Blue/Red LED Indicator for RX/TX
  • Blue LED Channel Indicator
  • Dimmer Control
  • Receive Gain Control
  • Mic Gain Control
  • The inverter that powers the blue lettering causes a faint high pitched noise to be heard in the receive signal. Galaxy has not come up with a fix for this.  It bothers some people a lot. If you think it might bother you, then you might want to get the regular DX-959 instead.

Please note, the StarLite lettering is always at full brightness because it
is not very intense - even in the dark. It is designed to let you know where
the controls are, but not be too bright. The back lighting may be turned off
using the Display Push switch but the brightness level is not affected by
the Dimmer pot. The StarLite lettering is always at full brightness when it
is on.

The blue digits of the frequency display and channel display can go from
very bright to very dim using our high resolution dimmer circuit. The Dimmer
control pot on the DX959B starts dimming almost immediately when you start
turning it down from maximum. On some radios, the dimming effect is not even
noticeable until you turn the pot a quarter or half turn. This one starts
dimming immediately and dims continuously down to where you can barely
notice the digits are on. This is perfect for night driving. You make the
digits exactly as bright as you like them. Of course, the digits can be shut
off completely with the Display Push switch.

CB Microphone Wiring (Galaxy)

Galaxy radios sometimes have a small scratch or ding that the factory covers with black touch up.  We cannot effect this and do not guarantee your radio to be cosmetically perfect.  Bells CB will make no marks or scratches on your radio ourselves.  Galaxy might though and I cannot control it.

Install an EXTERNAL PTT keying port. We use an RCA jack for a TX output PORT to your external device. Every time you key it provides a connection between the +/- of the RCA connector.

1) Output RCA completely isolated  from the radio. Both +/-  connect to a relay that isolates it from the radios circuits.
   2) Optional BYPASS switch in case your external device does not have a standby (turns port off (stays open))
     4) Heavy duty relay can handle any keying circuit voltage, even the SB-220's - 120VDC circuit.
